This event was of special interest to:
  • Telecommunication managers

  • Data network planners, engineers and technicians

  • Administrators with responsibility for enterprise telecommunication

The past ten years have seen a gradual and growing adoption of voice over IP, the set of technologies involved in carrying voice calls over a TCP/IP network. Today, VoIP is accepted as a mature, practical option for providing a wide range of telephony services for enterprises and individuals. Educational institutions are among those that have come to see VoIP as a legitimate alternative to traditional telephony.

While VoIP has become an accepted technology, understanding the state of the art in VoIP remains essential for those who provide voice and data services for organizations. To help meet this need, Merit will present a one-day seminar on the current state of the art in enterprise voice over IP implementations in education, providing expert-level information for professionals who make decisions about telephony and networking for their organizations.

The agenda included topical presentations by experts in the field; several case studies from organizations that have adopted VoIP either fully or as a partial solution; examinations of particularly important technical and policy issues; discussion of disruptive technologies; and opportunities to discuss issues with the presenters and other attendees.
